Dukla Soccer Club was looking for ideas to redesign their logo. Their current logo is from the 1960s and reflects a more Soviet era. With this sketch, I wanted to present them with a more modern look.
I travel often and have spent a lot of my life in Prague, Czech Republic. Somewhere along the way I became a fan of this soccer team. Although they are not the best team, they have a lot of heart and a devoted fan base. This rendition of the Dukla bear was my entry into a contest to redesign the logo.
I tried to pay homage to the mascot they currently have by using the same eyes, ears, and nose.
Ultimately, I was the only person that entered the mascot contest and I lost! HA! They felt my design was too “sinister.” I think it is too much American influence in it, personally. Regardless, I had it printed on some pint glasses and sweatshirts and I gave them to some of my fellow fans and they loved it! They have had their same logo for decades and I am not sure if they were serious about changing it in the end but it was fun to create it.
